Spring Competition Rules

  

Trailer Competition: Create a movie trailer for the movie genre of your choice.

Trailer Competition: Create a movie trailer for the movie genre of your choice.

  1. The time limit for each trailer is no less than one minute and no more than five minutes. Time will be measured from first sound, credit, image, or scene to the trailer’s end.
  2. New footage can be shot for this competition, and existing footage can be used to create a new trailer for this competition. You must have the rights to use any footage and music for your submission.
  3. Teams can submit more than one trailer to the competition.
  4. Use a 16:9 (1920×1080) aspect ratio and export as a H.264 (.mp4) file. If you are creating a trailer in the style of a “classic” film with a 4:3 aspect ratio, it must be formatted to be projected onto a 16:9 screen.
  5. Delivery Requirements: Each submission must include:
    1. 5 seconds of black
    2. 5 seconds title card with: team name and title
    3. Your one-to-five-minute trailer
    4. No more than 10 second of credits after your film
    5. 5 seconds of black
  6. Audio needs to be recorded at a level between -4 and 0db.
  7. If in your opinion the film might get an R rating from the MPAA, or is intended to be a Red Band trailer, it must be identified as such. A Red Band trailer is required for any film that contains “intense violence, brief nudity, graphic language, and drug use”. Please note: Nudity is not allowed for this competition without prior authorization from the IFCKC board, as the audience may have children in attendance.
  8. Submissions must be delivered via a digital upload to the Independent Filmmakers Coalition’s website through the link provided.
  9. The Independent Filmmakers Coalition will not be held responsible for loss of any materials, for screening problems, or for the decisions of the event judges.
  10. Each paid entrant will be given one free admission to the screening to distribute at will. Other team members and guests will be charged admission to attend the screening.
  11. The IFCKC may choose to not screen any entries for any reason. If the IFCKC chooses to not include your film, you will be notified before the competition, and an explanation will be provided for its exclusion.
  12. JACKASS CLAUSE: Films which expose persons or property to undue risk of injury or damage will not be accepted.
  13. The Independent Filmmakers Coalition will retain non-exclusive screening, promotional, and reproduction rights to all entries.
  14. THE TEAM SUBMISSION FEE WILL NOT BE REFUNDED FOR ANY REASON.

 

Poster Competition: Create a movie poster for a movie genre of your choice.

  1. Posters must be submitted as high-resolution image files in standard movie poster dimensions (27×40). The posters will be projected onto the screen during the film screening, so a minimum of 300 DPI is recommended, and PNG/PDF files are preferred.
  1. Teams can submit more than one poster to the competition.
  1. Submissions must be delivered via a digital upload to the Independent Filmmakers Coalition’s website through the link provided.
  1. The Independent Filmmakers Coalition will not be held responsible for loss of any materials, for screening problems, or for the decisions of the event judges.
  1. Each paid entrant will be given one free admission to the screening to distribute at will. Other team members and guests will be charged admission to attend the screening.

$15 Entry Fee for IFCKC members/ $20 for Non-members

Additional Films: $10 Entry Fee for EACH additional trailer/ poster

Judging of Entries:

Best Overall Trailer, Best Poster, Best Editing, Best Score, Audience Choice.
